Last year,
seeing an opportunity to bring higher quality and customer service to the firewood delivery business, Adam Rubin, right, and
Ted Whitehead quit their corporate jobs — Mr. Rubin, 44, was a stockbroker, Mr. Whitehead, 43, a lawyer — to start
thewoodman, an upscale firewood company based in Brooklyn. They sell seasoned logs and logs that are kiln-dried with the bark intact.
“It has a golden luster,” said Mr. Rubin, who talks about wood the way a sommelier discusses wine. “When
the sun shines on it, it’s so beautiful we feel badly parting with it.” A quarter face cord of wood —
a stack about 2 feet high and 4 feet long — starts at $85; (718) 554-3251 or www.thewoodman.com. SARAH ROBERTSON
